3D Animation and Motion Graphics Portfolio - 18 Months

The 3D animation and motion graphics portfolio course allows you to explore the possibilities of both disciplines. You will be equipped with practical skills and professional awareness required in creating 3D animations and motion graphics for the commercial world. In the 3D animation concentration, you will learn to model, paint, shade, texture, animate, light, composite and render. This will prepare you for a range of roles such as 3D concept or visualization artist, matte painter, modeller, animator, character rigger, compositor just to name a few.

In the motion graphics concentration, you will explore the techniques Adobe After Effects provides motion graphics artists in producing works for film and Television. This unit will equip you for jobs in the production of advertising communication, corporate videos, music videos, and in broadcast industry for title sequence and programme content sequence creation.

Animation and motion graphics are in great demand within the film, television, computer games and new media industries and this programme gives you the skills in both areas to succeed as an artist in the highly competitive entertainment and design worlds.

In this curriculum, particular emphasis is placed on:

At the end of training, you will:

  • Produce works that demonstrate basic drawing and illustration skills.
  • Use perspective to introduce the illusion of depth in an image.
  • Use perspective in a design to make the design appear real by altering the size, location of objects on a canvas.
  • Produce key drawings for animation production.
  • Model simple objects, human body, motor vehicles, and 3D environments
  • Add life to the objects you have created by adding shaders and texture to object and lights for the scene.
  • Create controllers to the character, add motion to the characters  and animated objects and edit animation for project presentation.
  • Finalize scene set-up, render, and Composite scene for final video output.
  • Produce professional motion graphics for Television and film.

Learning and Assessment
You will learn through a wide variety of teaching and learning methods including practical workshops, lectures, collaborative work, tutorials, peer group critiques and internships. Your assessment is a submission of portfolio of works and show reel demonstrating excellence and professionalism as recognized by industry standards.

Equipment Required

All the students must have:

  • A windows laptop or an Apple Macintosh Airport-equipped notebook computer with DVD-R

Required software package:

  • Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects
  • Autodesk Maya

Additional to the laptop computer, you will also be required to bring the following materials for your drawing and illustration classes:

  • 2 Good Sketchbooks
  • Paper - Manila, Egg Shell and Card Board – 10 sheets each
  • 2B to 6B Pencils
  • A set of Fable Brushes
  • A set of Poster Colours and extra white and yellow colours
  • Ruler, French Curves and Drawing tools
  • Rotring Pen and Ink
  • Palettes
  • Apron
  • A cap

Entry Requirement

  • Must be 18 years old, at least.
  • Should have successfully completed Senior High School, at least.
  • Should have basic IT skills or must be computer literate.
  • Must have a solid grasp of the English language
  • Must be of sound mind.

Tuition Fee:
GHS12,000 for Ghanaian students to be paid in five installments. USD7,500 for non-Ghanaian students to be paid in 4 installments
