Advertising Design Portfolio - 18 Months

As an advertising designer, you will be involved with the design of brand communications for a variety of media. In order to develop creative solutions that communicate effectively with a target audience, designers need a strong foundation in the principles of marketing and advertising. This course integrates graphic design practice with marketing and advertising theory to give you that foundation.  This programme will give you the knowledge, skills and attitudes required in the design of brand communication for a variety of media.

At the end of training, you will:

  • Demonstrate conceptual creative thinking skills.
  • Understand the principles of marketing and advertising and how they relate to advertising design.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the creative process and how it impacts on effective ways of coming up with ideas.
  • Be able to create engaging visuals and styles for brands and advertising design.
  • Formulate visuals and layouts that evoke emotion and response for specific audiences or market segments.
  • Demonstrate advertising copywriting and art direction skills.
  • Demonstrate competence in the design of adverts for print and outdoor media.

Learning and Assessment
You will learn through a wide variety of teaching and learning methods including practical workshops, lectures, collaborative work, peer group critiques and internship. Your assessment is a submission of portfolio that proves proficiency in the design of ads for print and outdoor. Portfolio must illustrate a spectrum of creative solutions for diverse brands and demonstrate excellence and professionalism as recognized by industry standards.

Equipment and Software Required

All the students must have a Windows laptop or an Apple Macintosh Airport-equipped notebook computer with CD-R loaded with Adobe Creative Cloud. Particular programmes required include Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

Entry Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years old, at least.
  • Should have successfully completed Senior High School, at least.
  • Should have basic IT skills or must be computer literate.
  • Must have a solid grasp of the English language.
  • Must be of sound mind.

Tuition Fee: GHS12,000 for Ghanaian students to be paid in five installments. USD7,500 for non-Ghanaian students to be paid in 4 installments.
